The BIO-RED project aims to strengthen regional innovation ecosystems in the strategic fields of red biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, helping position Europe at the forefront of global innovation.
As part of this mission, Medicen Paris Region is organizing a European hackathon dedicated to Precision Fermentation: Scaling Bioproduction from Lab to Industry. The event will bring together innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, industry experts, and students to address one of the sector's most pressing challenges: transforming promising laboratory breakthroughs into scalable and sustainable industrial production.
Over two intensive days, participants from across Europe will collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions addressing key challenges in the precision fermentation ecosystem.

⚙️Hackathon Challenges
Participants will be invited to tackle one of the following challenges:
- From lab to GMP, how to create an efficient shared european plateform or pilot
- Key challenges in biomass valorisation within precision fermentation
- Tools and technologies for optimizing bioprocesses
- Process Intensification and Continuous Manufacturing: Producing Better, Faster, and Greener
- Other innovative topics related to precision fermentation and bioproduction
Supported by leading experts and mentors, teams will develop impactful proposals with the potential to accelerate innovation and strengthen Europe's bioproduction capabilities.
Why Participate ?
Selected projects will benefit from more than €9,000 worth of mentoring and expert support provided by leading European specialists in biotechnology and bioproduction.
In addition, the two most promising projects will be awarded a complimentary Medicen Paris Region membership for 2026–2027, granting access to one of Europe's leading health innovation ecosystems and the expertise, opportunities, and network that come with it.
